Painting a room is one of the easiest ways to give it an instant refresh. It can turn dark corners into intriguing enclaves, stairwells into dramatic flights of ascension, bedrooms into calm neutral sanctuaries. Paint can cover up scuffs and scratches leftover from the previous tenants, it can help prevent damp, mold, and mildew forming in your bathroom, it can add a touch of style to your radiators, floors and furniture. But with so many paint brands out there, it’s hard to know where to begin when choosing the correct shade and finish for the task in hand.
Painting your home is a relatively cost effective way of putting your stamp on a space. And the good news is, if you go wrong, it’s usually an easy fix. But before you take your trolley down the aisles of the local hardware store, have a think about the exact look and feel you are going for. There’s a lot to consider when transforming a space with color. What kind of surface are you working with? What kind of texture are you wanting to achieve? Is the area currently covered with paint? Do you need to prime it with a base coat?
At CSI Custom Paint Inc we’ve seen everything, from cracked plaster to peeling wallpaper, and we know the right paints for the job. Here’s a few of our favorite recommendations:
Benjamín Moore – These guys have a great environmental range called Natura. With zero volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, this paint has very few fumes, making it allergy and asthma friendlily, so you won’t need all the doors and windows open! It gives great coverage and is resistant to staining over time, ideal for your living room.
Kellymoore – We often use Kellymoore paints as they provide a professional finish, no matter the surface. With their range of eco-conscious interior and exterior paints, wood stains, and enamels, they offer a ColorVisualizer tool, which lets you upload photos of your room to help you choose the perfect shade.
Dunn Edwards – A longstanding reputable family firm, Dunn Edwards paint performs brilliantly. We love this paint for it’s color retention, meaning that your bright blue wall won’t fade over time. High quality and easy to use.
Sherwin Williams – Sherwin Williams offer a versatile range of paints, which give an even finish with a roller, due to its high quality thickness. Their Multi-Purpose Interior/Exterior Latex Primer/Sealer is a great all rounder product, which adheres well to surfaces. Just remember to wear some gloves!
Farrow & Ball – If your wanting a really classic finish, reminiscent of a British country house, Dorset based Farrow & Ball are a great choice. Their Modern Emulsion has a real reflective quality to it, despite being wipeable, meaning you can remove unwanted marks without removing the paint underneath.
